Top Ten Tips to Save Money on Your Move

Avoid Weekends! - Most removalist companies charge more for a Friday, Saturday and Sunday than a Monday through Thursday. If you can arrange to book a move for a Monday through Thursday, it can end up saving you a lot on your move.

Be prepared! - You are being charged for each minute, half-hour or hour that those removalists are at your house, so if you are prepared and have everything either boxed, wrapped, or dismantled before the removalists show up, it will make your move go faster, and therefore be cheaper.

Access! - Make sure that the guys will have a place to park when they get to your place. If they have to spend time parking or get a ticket while trying to park somewhere, it's going to make your move more expensive. And if you are in an apartment building, make sure you book the lift so that the guys can get your goods moved quickly and efficiently.

Avoid Traffic! - When you are being charged by time and the guys get stuck in peak traffic in the city, your move is going to go a bit longer than you thought. Either try to avoid traffic by giving the guys instructions on how to get around it, or choose and time slot that would be best to avoid the traffic.

Downsize! - You don't need to move every single thing in your house. If you don't need a something, then don't take it. If you haven't used it in a year, what's the chance that you are going to use it just because you're moving to a new house? Skip the hassle and the price of moving it and just toss it out.

Don't go with the cheapest! - If one company is significantly lower than all of the others, there is probably a reason for it. Check out their reputation, and ask if there are any other additional costs, because they are probably hiding some cost that will make your move end up costing a lot more than they made it seem.

Bundle! - Getting packing materials, cleaning, utility reconnection and packing from your professional removalist at a reduced rate can end up being cheaper than getting those things organised for yourself.

Plan Ahead! - If you know that you are moving in two months, then don't wait until the day before the move to book a removalist, this might mean that there is less availability and might be more expensive for the time slots, or you might have to make do with a date that you didn't actually want.

Avoid making more than one trip! - If you can put some stuff in your car, like the smaller packing boxes, then it is probably cheaper for you to move them yourself and just leave the bigger items to the professionals. This can reduce the amount of time and the number of trips you may have to do just for the smaller items that you could do on your own.

Know what you're moving! - If you are moving anything large, such as a piano, safe, treadmill, spa, pool table, or even a car engine, let the moving company know so that they can send out the appropriate removalists and vehicles. If the men show up on the day and find out that there is something there that they cannot move, they won't! And they'll still charge you!

So follow these ten top tips for saving money on your move in Sydney, and other major cities and you'll be looking at a cheaper bill at the end of your house moving.
