What Not to Pack when Moving House

During the course of moving, you will need to pack and move your entire house or apartment. You will need to organize everything that you own into countless boxes and bags and pack them all neatly into a truck. But there are some things that you probably shouldn't pack into that truck. Whether you are moving locally or interstate, there are a few items that shouldn't be packed away as they are either too valuable or something that you will need when you arrive at your drop-off address before you get the chance to unpack.

If you are moving interstate, there are usually a few days lull between when the men pick up your things at your pickup to when they drop them off at your drop-off. The way that you spend these days depend on where you are moving and whether you are transporting your own vehicle or flying to your new house. In either case, there are items that will make your move easier and more comfortable.

The most important thing to keep off the moving truck would be spare clothes and toiletries. You don't want to end up on the other side of the country with no deodorant or with abnormally bad breath, only to find that you've packed your toothbrush into the bottom of the last packing box or in your suitcase in the back of the car. Toiletries are items that you want to have in either a purse or a small bag that is going to be with you at all times.

Along with these items are important documents, such as passports and birth certificates. Even if it is a short-distance move, you don't want these items to fall into the wrong hands. Professional moving companies are usually very careful when it comes to items like this, but it is always possible with an open house during moving that something can be misplaced or taken. Always keep these items on your in either a purse or a small bag.

Electronics are also pretty important to move yourself. If you are moving a laptop or even a desktop computer, there are chances that something can be lost or damaged during transport. If you are planning on driving to your new place, it is always better to pack expensive electronics into your own car, rather than into the truck, as it can be damaged in transport. When something like a laptop is damaged in transport, there is likely that it would be covered by the removalists' insurance, but it is the information on the computer—such as photos—that you may never get back again.

Also, removalist insurance covers the cost of the item, but not it's negotiable value. So if you have a painting that's worth thousands of dollars, it would not be covered for that amount by the insurance. This is the same with jewellery, watches and other precious items. These are things that, if possible, you should keep with you at all times.

When you arrive at your new place, you will probably have at least a few days where nothing is organized, especially if you are starting a new job right away. It is good to have a few sets of clothes with you, and even a suit or dress clothes for your job. Also, whether you are travelling in a car or a plane, it is always good to have some snacks and a book, both for your sanity and to keep the kids happy, if you are travelling with children.

These are all important items that should not go with the removalists, and shouldn't go on the truck with the guys. For everything that is going on the truck, you should get a professional removalist to pack and move your items.
